第一章 基本介词研究

L ESSON 1 基本介词 AT

AT的基本含义是location，其详细词义分类整理如下：

1. 在…地方；处于…的状态（表位置、状态、条件、时间、年龄）

EX） He studied at Harvard University. He died at the age of ten. He is at table. I am at a loss what to do. We are at peace with the neighboring countries. I will leave it at your disposal.

2. 在…方面（表能力、性质的对象）

EX） He is a genius at music. She is good at knitting.

3. 因为（表原因、理由）

EX） We were surprised at the news.

4. 朝…；按照（表目标、方向）

EX） He fired a gun at the intruder.

5. 在…位置（表度数、价格）

EX） The thermometer 〔mercury〕 stands at 30 degrees centigrade. It is valued 〔priced〕 at 5 dollars.

6. 以…的方式

EX） He invested at the expense of his fortune.

解 习语；词义溯源：处于［失去话语（a loss for words）］的状态

例 I really appreciate this. You guys are wonderful and I wish I could put into words how much I admire you for being so thoughtful and generous, but I'm really at a loss for words.
